Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo

Published by Candlewick Press, 2000

bulletThe plot is simple, but very deep.
bulletThe characters change and develop over the course of the book. They learn lessons that everyone should learn, but not in a very obvious way.
bulletThe story is written from the perspective of the little girl and the language is very appropriate and refreshing.
bulletA little girl finds a dog in the new town she just moved to. Her father is the pastor and her mom left them when she was three. She doesn't have any friends until she meets this dog. She learns about life and people and forgiveness.
