The Slave Dancer

Published by Laurel- Leaf Publishers

bulletIt is available in paperback.
bulletAge level: 5th – 8th grade.
bulletThis story was a story about a boy named Jesse. He was kidnapped and put on a boat. He played the fiddle on a slave boat. He was put on the slave boat to play for the slaves so that they would dance and have exercise so they wouldn’t get sick. The content of this book was good because it could show younger readers how horrible slavery is. The boy has a different view on slavery when he returns from the trip. This book may not be appropriate for slow readers because it moved slowly.
